South Florida Data Centers: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach

South Florida means three counties — Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach — but the region's data center capacity is not spread evenly across them. The center of gravity is Miami-Dade, where twelve major facilities cluster around the NAP of the Americas and the subsea systems that make Miami the gateway between North and Latin America. North of the county line, Broward and Palm Beach add roughly eight verified facilities that serve a different job: disaster recovery, second sites, and edge capacity closer to the northern suburbs.
That distinction matters more than the raw facility count, and the count itself is easy to get wrong. Directories routinely list retired brands and single buildings twice. What follows is limited to facilities we can tie to operator-published specifications.
Miami-Dade: the interconnection capital
Almost every reason to put infrastructure in South Florida in the first place lives in Miami-Dade. The county holds twelve major carrier-neutral facilities, the densest carrier and peering ecosystem in the southeastern United States, and the terminations of the subsea cable systems linking the United States to Latin America and the Caribbean. If your requirement involves reaching networks or users across the region, this is where the answer usually is.

Fort Lauderdale and Broward County
Broward has three verified carrier-neutral colocation facilities. They are mid-sized buildings serving regional enterprises and second-site requirements rather than competing with Miami on carrier count. Note that the Deerfield Beach building appears twice in most directories because two brands sell space in it.
Flexential Fort Lauderdale
5301 NW 33rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale
A Category 5 hurricane-resistant building (per Flexential) with a 64,164 sq ft data center footprint, 3.15 MW of critical power, and N+1 UPS and cooling redundancy.
365 Data Centers Fort Lauderdale
3250 W Commercial Blvd, Fort Lauderdale
An 11,400 sq ft carrier-neutral facility with a dedicated 1.5 MW generator, N+1 UPS, a 280-ton cooling plant, and eight carriers on-net plus access to the Florida Internet Exchange (FL-IX).
Volico FLL1 / Vault Networks
500 Green Rd, Deerfield Beach
One building operated under two brands. Both publish 2 MW of power with 48 MW of expansion capacity, 2N+X redundant power and cooling, and Category 5 hurricane-resistant design (per both operators). Treat the floor area cautiously: the two brands publish different figures, 20,000 and 12,000 sq ft.
Beyond those three, Broward also contains a small number of carrier network-colocation rooms with no operator-published documentation. They are not comparable to the facilities above and we do not list specifications for them.
Boca Raton and Palm Beach County
Palm Beach County has the deeper bench of the two northern counties, concentrated in Boca Raton, and it has something no other market outside Miami-Dade offers: its own subsea entry point. Boca Raton hosts multiple submarine cable landing stations, including the Telxius station serving South America-1 (SAm-1), the Colombia-Florida Subsea Fiber (CFX-1), GlobeNet and the Bahamas Internet Cable System. That is a genuine differentiator for anything that needs Latin American reach with physical separation from Miami.

A 49,850 sq ft campus with 30,400 sq ft of data center space, redundant generators totaling 2.05 MW, N+1 cooling with aisle containment, and ten carriers on-net including AT&T, Lumen, Cogent, Crown Castle and Megaport.
Equinix MI3
4680 Conference Way South, Boca Raton
Equinix's Boca Raton IBX, roughly 44 miles north of Miami, offering premium interconnection and direct connectivity to leading Latin American network operators. Equinix describes it as sited outside the Category 5 hurricane evacuation zone — a siting claim about the location, not a structural rating of the building.

A 10,011 sq ft carrier-neutral facility offering cabinets and private cages, UPS with backup generator, and Cogent ports up to 400GE.
3EX Hosting
6601 Park of Commerce Blvd, Boca Raton
A carrier-neutral facility publishing 15,000 sq ft of colocation capacity, up to 17 kW per rack, two independent 2N power systems, and a low-risk flood zone location.
Cloud South
West Palm Beach
A 6,500 sq ft, 1,000 kW Tier 4 carrier-neutral facility originally built by Global Crossing in 2003, offering space from a single rack unit up to 3,500 sq ft of open floor.
As in Broward, a small number of carrier network-colocation rooms exist in the county without published specifications. And be careful with third-party square footage: directory figures for 3EX Hosting, for instance, run several times the number the operator itself publishes.
Choosing between Miami and the northern counties
The decision is usually simpler than it looks, because the two options are good at different things rather than being ranked versions of each other.
Go to Miami-Dade when connectivity is the requirement. Carrier density, the Latin American interconnection ecosystem, the cloud on-ramps and the bulk of the subsea capacity are all there, and nothing in Broward or Palm Beach approaches it. If your workload serves users across Latin America and the Caribbean, or you need to reach a specific carrier or exchange, the northern counties will cost you cross connects and transport to get back to Miami anyway.
Go north when physical characteristics are the requirement. Broward and Palm Beach put distance between your equipment and the Miami urban core, which is the point of a disaster recovery or second site. Several northern facilities are sited inland, in low-risk flood zones, or — in the case of Equinix MI3 — outside the Category 5 hurricane evacuation zone, which changes the operational picture during a storm even when the buildings themselves are comparably hardened. Hurricane hardening varies building by building across the whole region, so confirm what each operator publishes for the specific site rather than assuming a county-wide standard.
Latency is rarely the deciding factor. The three counties sit within roughly 70 miles end to end on well-served fiber routes, so the round trip between a Boca Raton or Fort Lauderdale site and downtown Miami is small enough that most applications will not notice it. That is what makes the common pairing work: primary capacity in Miami for the interconnection, secondary capacity to the north for separation, replicating between them without a latency penalty that forces an architecture change.

Broward County's verified carrier-neutral colocation facilities are Flexential Fort Lauderdale at 5301 NW 33rd Avenue, 365 Data Centers Fort Lauderdale at 3250 W Commercial Blvd, and one building in Deerfield Beach at 500 Green Rd that is operated under two brands, Volico and Vault Networks. Directories overcount the market: Peak 10 listings for Fort Lauderdale are the same building as Flexential, since that brand was retired in 2017, and Volico and Vault Networks are one facility rather than two.
Does Equinix have a data center in Boca Raton?
Yes. Equinix MI3 is at 4680 Conference Way South in Boca Raton, roughly 44 miles north of Miami. Equinix positions it as sited outside the Category 5 hurricane evacuation zone — that is a statement about where the building sits, not a structural rating of the building itself. It offers premium interconnection and direct connectivity to leading Latin American network operators, which makes it a common second site for tenants whose primary footprint is in Equinix's Miami IBXs.
Where do subsea cables land in South Florida?
In two places. Miami-Dade is the better known entry point, anchored by the NAP of the Americas and the carrier hotels around it. Boca Raton in Palm Beach County is the second: it hosts multiple submarine cable landing stations, including the Telxius station serving South America-1 (SAm-1), the Colombia-Florida Subsea Fiber (CFX-1), GlobeNet and the Bahamas Internet Cable System. That gives Palm Beach County a genuine subsea position distinct from Miami's.
Should I choose Miami or Fort Lauderdale for colocation?
Choose Miami if interconnection is the requirement. Carrier density, the Latin American peering ecosystem and the largest concentration of subsea capacity are all in Miami-Dade, across twelve major facilities. Choose Broward or Palm Beach if you are placing a second site, a disaster recovery footprint or an edge node, and want physical separation from the Miami urban core — several northern facilities are also sited inland or outside hurricane evacuation zones. Latency between the three counties is minimal, so a Miami primary with a northern secondary is a workable pairing rather than a compromise.
